This method will work on some phones, but not all. Both you and your interviewee will need to download and use Voice Record Pro – most other apps won’t record while you are on a phone call.
First, ask your interviewee to download the app Voice Record Pro in advance of the interview. You should download it too, if you haven’t done so already.
Call your interviewee on the phone they’ve downloaded the app on. You should also be on the phone you have the app on.
While you’re on the call to them, get them to open Voice Record Pro. Open Voice Record Pro on your phone too.
When you’re both ready to start the interview, try to get your interviewee to press the red ‘Record’ button at the same time as you. You could try doing a countdown of ‘3… 2… 1… record!’ You probably won’t be able to start recording at exactly the same time, but that’s OK – just try to get it as close as possible!
Now you can do your interview.
When you’ve finished your interview, try to get your interviewee to press the ‘Stop’ at roughly the same time as you.
Ask your interviewee to send you their recording using whatever file transfer method suits you both: for example, Dropbox, WeTransfer or Google Drive.
You can then transfer both your recording and your interviewee’s recording to a computer (if you’re doing Option B) or to your teacher (if you’re doing Option A). Make sure to transfer both recordings.
We recommend doing a short test to check that everything is working before doing your full interview.
