Hello, and welcome to Talking About Voices. Talking About Voices is an opportunity for secondary school pupils and college students to learn about language variation and change while also learning audio production skills. The objective is for the pupils to make a short podcast episode about language, supporeted by a self-contained set of tutorials that you can run in your own school. In its original version the project ran as a competition for pupils in Greater Manchester, but now the focus is simply on taking part. However, if you’re interested, there is a link to some of the previous winners on the About page.
This website provides an introduction and outline for teachers and resources that pupils can access. Included are:
- A language tutorial, including videos and group discussion tasks.
- A recording tutorial, instructing pupils on what content to include and how to record a podcast.
- An editing tutorial, an optional, more in-depth look at using sound editing software to put together a podcast.
We ask that you register before starting to use the materials so that we can keep track of how the resource is being used. Completing the registration form below will provide access to a full teacher information pack.
